The Power of KAP: Unlocking Your Healing Potential
Discovered in the 1960s, ketamine was originally developed as an anesthetic and is still safely used today for surgical and medical procedures in children, adults, and even animals. Beyond its medical applications, ketamine has emerged as a powerful therapeutic tool for mental health and healing.
Unlike traditional antidepressants, which primarily target the serotonin system, ketamine works on the glutamate system, promoting rapid neural regeneration and enhanced brain plasticity. Its ability to restore and strengthen neural pathways is like reviving a neglected garden—transforming it into a thriving, vibrant ecosystem.
By enhancing mental clarity and emotional stability, KAP offers a pathway to profound healing and personal growth.
The Protocol
1. Initial Consultation
This free consultation is your opportunity to explore whether Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is the right path for you. We’ll discuss your goals, medical and psychiatric history, and any questions you may have. This conversation ensures that KAP is a safe and appropriate fit while also giving you a chance to learn more about what to expect.
2. Intake Appointment
Before beginning treatment, we will complete a comprehensive intake process to review your medical history, current medications, and past or present drug and alcohol use to assess any potential risks. This session allows us to set clear expectations, answer any questions, and ensure you feel fully prepared before beginning treatment.
3. Preparation Session
We set the stage for transformation. This session is dedicated to establishing a therapeutic framework, aligning intentions, and preparing you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for the journey ahead.
4. Ketamine Session(s)
Whether in my comfortable office or via telehealth, these sessions allow your mind to transcend typical boundaries—facilitated by the careful administration of ketamine—to enhance neural connectivity and emotional resilience.
5. Integration Therapy
Post-session reflections are crucial for weaving insights into the fabric of your daily life. This phase helps make sense of the experience and ensures that the insights gained during therapy become lasting, meaningful changes in your ongoing narrative.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) offers transformative benefits for mental health, often providing relief where other treatments have fallen short. It can swiftly reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD while enhancing emotional insight and neuroplasticity—helping the brain embrace healthier thought patterns and behaviors. The combination of ketamine with psychotherapy allows for deep breakthroughs, paving the way for lasting emotional resilience and well-being.
-
Studies show that KAP can rapidly reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and suicidal ideation, often when other treatments have been ineffective. Research also suggests benefits for chronic stress, existential distress, and trauma-related conditions. KAP has been studied in diverse populations, including individuals with treatment-resistant depression, veterans with PTSD, and those experiencing end-of-life anxiety.
-
Readiness for KAP is personal and looks different for everyone. You may be ready if you’re 18 or older, open to exploring new healing approaches, and feel stuck despite traditional therapies. If you’re actively engaged in self-reflection and willing to integrate new insights into your daily life, KAP could be a powerful tool for growth. If you're unsure, we can explore your goals and concerns in a free consultation.
-
Absolutely! While KAP is commonly used to treat depression, anxiety, and PTSD, it can also support personal growth, emotional resilience, and creative breakthroughs. If you're seeking deeper self-awareness, improved emotional balance, or new insights into your life’s direction, KAP can be a valuable tool.
-
KAP may not be appropriate for individuals with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, a history of psychosis, or a family history of these conditions. It may also be unsuitable for those with dementia, certain personality disorders, or active substance abuse concerns. Because these conditions can impact how ketamine affects the brain, alternative therapies may be a better fit.
-
Certain health conditions may make KAP unsafe, including uncontrolled hypertension, severe cardiovascular disease, some neurological disorders, and pregnancy. A licensed medical provider will assess your health history to determine if KAP is appropriate for you.
-
Research on ketamine’s effects during breastfeeding is limited, so caution is advised. Ketamine can pass into breast milk, but the extent of its impact is not well understood. If you’re breastfeeding, we can discuss options, including temporarily pausing breastfeeding and storing milk in advance to minimize potential risks.
-
Yes. Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication legally prescribed off-label for mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I follow all legal and ethical guidelines to ensure safe, compliant treatment.
-
When administered in a clinical setting under professional supervision, KAP is considered safe. Ketamine has been used in medical settings for decades, and research supports its therapeutic benefits. Before treatment, a thorough medical and psychological assessment is conducted to ensure it’s right for you.
-
Ketamine is not physically addictive when used in a structured therapeutic setting. While misuse is possible, KAP is designed with clear guidelines and professional support to ensure safe, intentional use. My goal is to help you engage with ketamine as a tool for healing—not dependency.
-
A history of substance use does not automatically disqualify you from KAP. We will assess your individual situation to determine whether KAP is safe and appropriate for your healing journey.
-
Yes. For safety reasons, you should not drive for the rest of the day after treatment. You may use Uber or Lyft, but I will require you to sign a consent form for rideshare transportation. Additionally, you’ll sign an agreement confirming you won’t drive, operate machinery, use a sauna/hot tub, consume alcohol/substances, or make major decisions for the remainder of the day.
-
A chaperone is required to ensure your safety. While they don’t need to be in the same room, they must be available by phone in case you need assistance. Ketamine can alter awareness, so having a trusted person nearby provides an added layer of security.
-
Ketamine can temporarily increase blood pressure. Checking it before and after your session ensures your safety and allows us to monitor any changes.
-
Preparation helps maximize your experience. Before your session:
Set a healing intention (we will refine this together in our preparation session)
Eat a light meal a few hours beforehand
Avoid alcohol, recreational substances, and cannabis for at least 24–48 hours
Wear comfortable clothing
Have a cozy blanket, eye mask, and headphones ready for a relaxed experience
-
Give yourself space to rest and integrate the experience. Gentle activities like journaling, walking, or listening to calming music can help process insights. Stay hydrated, eat nourishing foods, and prioritize sleep. We will explore your experience further in your integration session.
-
For the remainder of the day:
Do not drive or operate heavy machinery
Avoid alcohol, cannabis, or other substances
Avoid making major life decisions
Allow yourself time to rest and integrate without distractions
-
You’ll take your blood pressure before the session
After clearance, you’ll take your prescribed ketamine (usually a lozenge)
You’ll relax in a comfortable position with an eye mask and soothing music
o The effects begin within 15-30 minutes and last about 60-90 minutes
o I will be present to support you throughout
o Afterward, you’ll take another blood pressure reading before concluding the session
-
Feeling nervous is completely normal and it doesn’t mean KAP isn’t right for you. In our preparation sessions, we will not only address any concerns you might have but also explore and work with any parts of you that are holding these concerns. This introduction to parts work allows us to acknowledge and validate the different aspects of your experience, ensuring that every part of you feels heard and supported. You are never alone in this process, and we will move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
-
The number of sessions varies based on your needs and goals. Some people experience meaningful shifts after just a few sessions, while others choose a more structured approach with a 6-session series for deeper healing. We’ll work together to create a plan that aligns with your unique path—and if you feel called to continue beyond six sessions, we can absolutely expand your journey at a pace that feels right for you.
-
Currently, insurance does not cover Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) due to the nature of the treatment—specifically the extended session length and the use of medicine.
While I am in-network with some insurance plans for traditional therapy, KAP sessions and medication costs must be paid out of pocket.
To help make this work more accessible, I accept CareCredit, which allows you to finance your treatment with monthly payments. This gives you the flexibility to begin your healing journey right away without the stress of upfront costs.
-
If KAP is determined to be a good fit for you, I will refer you to a licensed medical professional for a full health evaluation. If appropriate, they will prescribe ketamine for your treatment, ensuring all aspects of your health and safety are considered.
-
Cannabis can interfere with ketamine’s effects, making it harder to fully engage in therapy and integrate insights. It can also impact blood pressure and heart rate, which are important safety considerations. For best results, avoid cannabis for at least 24–48 hours before and after your session.
